Psychotherapy Q&A

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a treatment that uses talk therapy to reduce symptoms of common mental health conditions. During treatment, Dr. Bin-Nun uses various methods to help you work through difficult life situations or mood disorders using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and other highly effective strategies.

Dr. Bin-Nun provides individual psychotherapy sessions, as well as family, parent guidance, and marriage counseling. She tailors each therapy session using creative, research-based strategies.

Who benefits from psychotherapy?

You may be a candidate for psychotherapy if you or someone in your family struggles with:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Panic disorder
  • Phobias
  • Eating disorders
  • Anger management issues
  • Marriage or family conflicts
  • Grief
  • Insomnia
  • Autism

Dr. Bin-Nun helps you resolve conflicts with your partner, children, other extended family members, friends, or coworkers. She hopes to make it possible for you to minimize stress or anxiety, grief, addictions, trauma, and sleeping discomfort.

What should I expect during psychotherapy sessions?

During therapy sessions with Dr. Bin-Nun, she gets to know you by asking questions about your lifestyle habits and your mood, thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She also reviews your family history and any past life experiences that may affect your mental health.

She helps you deal with your lifestyle and way of thinking. She uses highly effective forms of psychotherapy, depending on your unique needs and situation. You might also be referred to a medicating psychiatrist to reduce bothersome symptoms associated with mental health conditions, such as anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, or relational problems.

Dr. Bin-Nun uses art therapy, animal-assisted therapy, play therapy, cooking therapy (when available), social skills training, and more. She provides Castoffz-Artful recycle therapy to celebrate getting a cast off and offers pet memorial tables, gourd memorial urns, as well as dog memory pillows, to aid in grief counseling.

What are the different types of psychotherapy?

Common forms of psychotherapy include:

  • CBT: replacing unhealthy behaviors with positive behaviors
  • Psychodynamic therapy: increasing awareness of unconscious thoughts
  • Dialectical behavioral therapy: improving stress, emotions, and relationships
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy: accepting thoughts and committing to change
  • Interpersonal psychotherapy: addressing relationship problems
  • Supportive psychotherapy: reinforcing the ability to cope with stress

Dr. Bin-Nun may suggest more than one type of therapy to maximize your mental health and reduce the chance of future problems.

She follows up with you via email as needed to support your concerns.
